WomenVIBE began as SHE IS The Movement in 2018. Co-creators, Christina Wilborn & Mallory Babatunde, dreamed of building a movement that would help encourage, empower, and give womxn a space to network. To just get their feet wet, they started with what they knew and loved - DANCE. “She Is” held pop-up dance classes through out the city of Chicago, where they offered a space for women to come together free of judgement and feel empowered through movement.
VIBE dance class was created to remind womxn that it is ok to own their confidence in their sexual identity. And that taking up space is necessary to develop the stronghold in our individual powers.
Although womxnvibe is currently offered in the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago, we are always interested in hosting or being a part of your area! We are open to having a class or hosting/promoting our brand at events in your area.
As we continue to grow we hope to spread love through encouragement, empowerment and creating community.
Hi Everybody! It's Me, Mal!
I started my dance career at the age of 8 at Studio One Dance Conservatory in Illinois. I have had the opportunity to train at Joel Hall, Joffrey Ballet Chicago, Lou Conte Dance Studio, among many others. My love and admiration for physical movement and self expression through dance only grew as I got older.
I decided to hone in on my dance talents and picked up a Minor in Dance Performance from Northern Illinois University. There, I trained in all dance styles. But at this point in my life, as I was coming into adulthood and more importantly, womanhood, I was realizing my identity within concert dance was struggling to coexist with my identity within my real life. I started dancing with Rhythm Nation on campus, which was known for being sexy and embracing who they were as women all while still exhibiting the essence of Hip Hop. They taught me a lot about owning who you are and letting it shine through your movement, and that stuck with me to this day.
Post college, I found myself still auditioning for more commercial gigs, which landed me in a couple music videos for artists like Twista and T-Pain. One opportunity that has formed me to my current years was auditioning for UrbanBurlesque, where we performed throughout Chicago, in lingerie (talk about a confidence boost, HA).
The confidence and energy that I was awarded from being able to fully embrace who I am as a woman, and be unapologetic in that ability allowed me to transition into wanting to help other women gain that same confidence and self-awareness. So what better way than to team up with one of my closest friends and create a movement for women, by women. Thus, WOMXNVIBE was born.
I’ve pretty much been dancing around the chicagoland area ALLL teenage & adult life. I started in the hip hop circuit dancing & competing with Urban Beat Dance studio. I toyed with some technique while being a work study at the studio, but hip hop had my heart. As I entered my late teens/early 20s, I ventured into adult companies such as C.O.D.A (Chicago Onyx Dance Alliance), Hip Hop Connxion HQ, and Puzzle League. I have been fortunate to bless stages for various concerts such as Fat Joe & Bruno Mars with KissFM, The Oprah Winfrey Show, & Redbull Music Festival.
As I grew into my womanhood, I found myself wanting to connect more to my sensual side of dance. As the universe would have it, I walked right into another performing company, Urban Burlesque, & continued to explore movement in a sensual way dancing around the Chicagoland area basically in my draws!
As dance began to slow down and my career shifted, I got married & had a baby. My postpartum almost took me out, but thats a different story for a different day. I realized how my body and mindset had been continuously shifting through the years. I craved for movement again & my need for empowerment and community birthed She Is which you all know today as WOMXNVIBE.
